When it comes to patterns, most are problematic. This is especially true for plaids, zig-zags, and narrow stripes. Your only safe bet with patterns on video are medium-sized patterns, so aim for as neutral of a look as possible.

If you have a pale complexion, stay away from pure white clothing. Instead, wear something that compliments your skin tone, like a nice light blue, teal, or cobalt.

In general, avoid wearing any color that too closely matches your skin tone. This has less to do with your skin tone, and more to do with the color correction process that happens in the post-production phase, where the editing team adjusts all the colors to match one another. Sometimes our clothing looks great in the mirror, but its utility is not suited to match our lifestyle — skirts that are too tight to walk in, jackets that unreasonably restrict our arm motion, and shoes that are meant for anything but walking.

You can avoid clothing malfunctions on the day of your shoot by trying on all of your clothing ahead of time. Take it one step further by doing a complete dress rehearsal. It is their job, after all. Instead, let yourself enjoy the experience and have fun with it!

I also wore a wet bandana around my neck in order to keep cool in the heat. We were shooting in upstate N. It was over degrees in blinding sun, so of course I had to keep it light. I wore a tank top, sports bra, running shoes, a bandana to keep sweat out of my eyes and my hair away from the lens, and those cargo shorts that can turn into pants—versatility and lots of pockets are key!

And a tiny, yet important detail, especially because of my wild, curly hair: I always had two elastic hair bands around my wrist to tie my hair up when the many hats I was wearing were metaphorically flying on and off. There was no heat, I think it was extra to heat an unused building. So we all had to wear our winter coats pretty much all day and any extra layers we could get our hands on at night!

Just because it downpours suddenly does not mean that the shoot will stop or that the schedule for the day will change! Bring a quick drying jacket, or a waterproof jacket for these times. Again, wearing clothes that whisk away moisture can help on rainy days because they allow for quicker dry time in between downpours or situations that cause moisture.
